Apple Maps gets crowdsourced accident reporting that works with Siri

Apple Maps is finally getting crowdsourced accident reporting. The feature was unearthed in the iOS 14.5 beta and will allow you to report an accident, hazard or speed trap on the road.

The same sought-after feature has been available for Google Maps and has been a staple of Waze, but Apple Maps adds a new element - hands-free reporting. You will be able to use Siri to report something on the go. For instance saying "Hey, Siri, there's a crash up ahead".

This is only one of the features to become part of iOS 14.5. It will also let you set third-party music apps as default player for Siri, bypassing FaceID while wearing a mask if you have an Apple Watch and bring dual-SIM 5G support.

Photoshop coming to iPad in 2019

Adobe, in a shift of strategy, is to launch a full version of Photoshop for the iPad, according to a Bloomberg report.
Adobe’s chief product officer of Creative Cloud, Scott Belsky, in a recent interview stated:

My aspiration is to get these on the market as soon as possible. There’s a lot required to take a product as sophisticated and powerful as Photoshop and make that work on a modern device like the iPad. We need to bring our products into this cloud-first collaborative era.

Adobe currently has Photoshop Express available on iPad. The new 'full-fat' version will allow you to edit your creations on an iPad will full cross-platform capability.
According to Belsky, customers in media and entertainment, are increasingly working on tablets rather than desktop computers, and have asked the company for the capability to make “edits on the fly” to their creative projects.
Adobe plans to reveal Photoshop for iPad at its annual MAX creative conference in October, with sources stating that engineering delays aside, the app should see the light of day sometime in 2019.

Adobe provided no confirmation on what iPad models would be supported, but we would predict that the current iPad Pro's will among them. We'll have to wait for official confirmation from Adobe on support for the original iPad Pro's and the new 2018 iPad with its A10 processor and Apple pencil support.

Microsoft is developing a foldable tablet running Windows 10 on ARM

Back in 2009 and 2010, many rumors told us Microsoft was working on a folding tablet called Courier. In the end, that never saw the light of day, and Apple's iPads became the kings of that market.

Intriguingly though, Microsoft is now said to be developing another device that is similar, at least in concept, to the canceled Courier. It's codenamed Andromeda, and will be a folding tablet that will run Windows 10 on ARM.

What's an eSIM, how it works and why it's important to you

In recent weeks Google and Apple brought the eSIM into the spotlight by including it within their latest product launches, the Google Pixel 2, Google Pixel 2 XL and the Apple Watch Series 3 with Cellular.

The eSIM gives us an improved and more secure customer experience, better designed devices, opens up new market opportunities for operators and enables entire new categories of connected devices.

Let's explore this baby in a little more detail.

Please bear with us for the next few paragraphs, as we look back in time.
SIM (Subscriber Identity Module) cards store network-specific information used to authenticate and identify subscribers on a cellular network and for the last 27 years have consisted of a physical card containing the chip which has to be inserted into the phone.

You may or may not remember, but in 1991, the SIM card that you inserted into your phone was the size of a credit card! In the intervening years the size of the humble SIM card has dramatically reduced.

How To Improve Usability

Building usable enterprise software is fraught with difficulties, even for the biggest companies on the planet. A glance at some egregious enterprise software fails is enough to make even the most experienced usability professionals dry-mouthed: witness SAP’s near-miss take-down of Hershey’s back in 1999, in which a new, unusable distribution system led to an 8% fall over Halloween season; or HP’s centralization of its ERP systems, which cost $160 million in backlogs and lost revenue.
